Off The Record: On Religion, Politics & Equality
I have to admit, I had been thinking this might happen. But, superstitiously, I thought if I didn’t speak of it it wouldn’t come to be. This from NPR:
On Fox Business News’ Imus in the Morning show today, Trump was asked if the event’s still going to happen. “I don’t know. I have to look into it,” he said. According to Trump, the candidates are nervous about appearing with him because he still might run for the White House as an independent after his next season of The Celebrity Apprentice wraps up on May 16.
Maybe candidates are declining because Trump is a truly awful human being or because Newsmax is a disgusting farce. But the pandering far righties Michele Bachmann and d-bag Rick Perry aren’t going to show so that shoots that theory down.
Rick Santorum is showing up because he has nothing to lose and wants all the face time in front of the Iowa electorate as possible before the January 3 caucuses (in related news, he just got a useless endorsement from the Iowa secretary of state Matt Schultz – a Mormon. Discuss amongst yourselves).
Romney, on the other hand, has everything to lose in Iowa so he can’t show.
We all know why Newt will be there (to cash in).
John Huntsman, the only sane one in the bunch, came out first and forcefully against the debate and Ron Paul is Ron Paul.
But cancel the debate! I have been looking forward to this almost as much as I was looking forward to the Cain/Gingrich “Lincoln-Douglas” debate. Please please tiny Christmas time infant baby Jesus let the show go on!
