If it had been lunchtime when I heard this story, I would have lost it.
Trijicon is a Michigan weapons company that currently is manufacturing rifle scopes with Bible verse references on them. Sweet isn’t it? Maybe crafting them for an upcoming church social/gun show or some such thing.
If that’s what you think you are oh so totally wrong.
They are manufacturing these scopes for ye olde US Government folks. That’s right, the same brave men and women that are fighting to protect us from (among many other things) an official religion, well, you get my drift.
Along with the sight’s stock nunber, there are coded Bible passages engraved on the sights. For example, how’s about a little JN8:12? Referring, of course to John 8:12which reads “Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
Thank God we aren’t involved in a war against Muslim militants where we are seeking to win the hearts and minds of the common folk, the regular Muslim people of Afghanistan or Iraq. That would be a huge mista…..what? We are in a war with such nations?
You can bet your sweet bippy I am going to be stopping by Congressman Thaddeus McCotter’s while I am in DC this week. Mr. McCotter represents the community where Trijicon is located.
I suggest you do the same. Or if you can’t be in DC why not contact your local congressperson? I am sure they would love to help. Find them here.

Holy Scopes indeed! I spent a year in Iraq as a military man working the interrogation side of things and it was a remarkably interesting stint. I’m proud to say that the Soldiers I knew and worked with did a great job of keeping their beliefs to themselves, though interrogators are usually more aware of differing religious views than others.
Still though, my experiences with Army Chaplains has been anything but positive. As the spiritual benchmarks of the military, they’re supposed to be non-denominational, though how anyone can pray equal parts to Allah and equal parts to Jehovah remains a mystery.
Beyond religion, there’s the sensitivity to Islamic traditions. Certain instances are taken very seriously over in Baghdad, especially any allegations of desecrating a Koran. But on bases, nearly every meal has pork, and on the Fourth of July a group called the “Perfect Girlz” came and sang to us in American Flag bikinis to a medley of John Mellencamp and Bruce Springsteen. I like American Flag bikini-wearing models as much as the next guy–especially when you throw in a little Toby Keith–but when a third of the audience are local nationals working on base, it seems a little peculiar.
I should mention that most detainees also had a knack for the ladies though. Among the insurgent propaganda about martyring oneself for Allah we usually found a stack of porn videos. Really. At least we’re not the only hypocrites in that moral regard.
Yes, religion in the military though. Bothers me. Thanks for the post. I never saw a Trijon scope over there so I can’t validate the Bible verses. Is it a government contract, or do Soldiers buy them on their own?
Hey there, thanks for the post. So far, there are only – from what I have been able to google – references made to the rifle scopes in official statements by members of the military muckity mucks. I am on the move over the next couple days and won’t be able to do a bunch of following up until I get home. In DC this week, tackling other things…Thanks for your post and I am going to check out your website. Also, would love to chat with you sometime about your experiences you know where if you are interested in such a proposal?
Hi Akopsa, sorry for the horrendous delay in getting back to you. I’d be glad to chat about my experiences in Iraq if you’re interested. I wrote a fictionalized account of my time over there if you’re interested in that. You can pick it up on Scribd or Amazon (if you have a kindle). The info is at my website.
FOX really cut off the republican/Obama debates? Lord.
And now, Rob, my apologies for criminal tardiness of reply. I will check out your book. Most of my interest would fall into your perception/others perceptions and the realities of prosthelytizing in the military. Would you be down with that?
